Development of an innovative measuring system of ground and structural deformations using a precise three-point alignment technique actually used in High Energy Physics Experiments. The capabilities of this technique (resolution approx. 1μm) make it a-priori very amendable to monitoring transient (seismic) and permanent (ground and structural) deformations. In the framework of this project after development of the devices and the software and proper validation and adjustment in the laboratory, the system will be deployed in the field. It consists of a pilot research program which may have serious impact in experimental research in earthquake engineering and engineering seismology.
