Preliminary information on the March experiment

Location: Euroseis-Test Site in Mygdonian Basin (N. Greece)

Scheduled dates: Scheduled to commence end of March

Scope:

To define the stratigraphy of the sedimentary deposits in terms of Vp and Vs velocities down to the basement between TST-DAB.

bullet

To obtain recordings of ambient noise with the aim to define soil properties and site response.

bullet

To complete the 3D soil structure information of the valley.

bullet

To verify operational level of the recording devices on and around the model structure.  

bullet

To study soil-structure interaction effects through the dynamic response of the 5-storey model structure and the prototype bridge pier.

Participants: Laboratory of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (AUTH-LSMFE), Laboratory of Strength of Materials (AUTH-LSM),  Geophysical Laboratory (AUTH-GL), Institute for Engineering Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (ITSAK), RWTH-Aachen - Lehrstuhl für Baustatik und Baudynamik, Laboratoire Central Des Ponts-Et-Chaussées, Institut Cartographic De Catalunya, Universita’ Degli Studi Di Trieste, The University Of Tokyo, Comenius University, Joint Research Center of the European Commission.

Level of Excitation expected: Low and strong level excitations to lead to medium level excitations. Big-shot experiments.
